Leipzig is recruiting international investors at MIPIM 2023

Promotion to the top 7 of the largest German cities +++ 895 million Euros commercial investment volume in 2022 +++ Climate protection as a focus of the conference program +++ 4th place in “fDi’s Small European Regions of the Future – FDI Strategy” +++

Setting an example in times of uncertainty: From March 14th to 17th, 2023, the Leipzig region will once again present itself at the world’s leading real estate fair MIPIM in Cannes. Together with Invest Region Leipzig GmbH (IRL) and other partners, it advertises to an international audience for investors and project developers and at the same time shows its profile as an innovative, vital location for business and liveability with great labor and demand potential. Leipzig partners this year are the KAPPIS Group, the ARCADIA In-vestment Group, the KSW Group and AOC | Die Stadtentwickler GmbH.

Clemens Schülke, Mayor for Economics, Labor and Digital Affairs of the City of Leipzig: “In the last ten years, the Leipzig region has developed into one of the most important business locations in Germany. Commercial areas with good transport connections, a high quality of life and unprecedented population growth have already convinced many specialists and investors to choose Leipzig as a location. We want to continue this success story and make it internationally known. The industry meeting in Cannes is a good opportunity for this.”

Michael Körner, Managing Director of IRL: “With its broad-based economic and scientific structure, Leipzig has mastered the crises of the past few months well. And there is much to be said for continued growth in the future, from which the surrounding area will also benefit. We are taking this positive perspective into account with numerous development areas that can be optimally staged at MIPIM.”

The market data for 2022 illustrate Leipzig’s strong growth development: According to an analysis by BNP Paribas Real Estate, the commercial investment volume on the local real estate market was 895 million euros last year and thus 22 percent above the previous year’s result. The population is also growing. With currently around 625,000 inhabitants, the Saxon city now ranks seventh among the largest German cities. In the last 18 years, it has gained 28 percent more residents. Leipzig attracts young people like no other location. According to the Statistical Yearbook 2022, there were more than 17,100 women and men between the ages of 18 and 30.

With the motto “Better Places – Greater Impact – Stronger Business”, this year’s MIPIM will focus on ESG, innovation and technology solutions that can accelerate the shift of the commercial real estate market towards a more sustainable model. The Leipzig region also draws attention to this in the official conference program. At the German Cities & Regions Pavilion (Stand R8.D24), where it is exhibiting together with the city and region of Han-over and the Rhine-Neckar metropolitan region, it will present the approaches to the topics of “Resilient Inner Cities” and “New Use of fallow and industrial land”.

The presence at the trade fair also provides insights into major projects that are planned and currently being expanded in the region. The future TechPark Leipzig in the north-east of the city, for example, offers enormous potential for institutes and technology companies from the fields of energy, environment and chemistry on 180,000 square meters of floor space. Additional offices, laboratories, workshops and conference rooms will be built on the BioCity Campus near the city center by 2025, and c-LEcta will have its headquarters here. In addition, the city, together with Leipzig/Halle Airport, is planning the largest contiguous industrial area in Saxony called “Radefelder Allee West”, which will also be presented at MIPIM.

On the part of the local companies, the KAPPIS Group is on site as a partner of the IRL for the second time. In Cannes, she is presenting her announced generation parks in Großpösna and Bad Lausick, each of which combines a diverse residential development with areas for trade, care and day care on several hectares. The ARCA-DIA Investment Group provides information about, among other things, the “Alte Ziegelei” business park in Liebertwolkwitz and the inner-city Plautstrasse business park. In addition, the KSW Group, founded in Leipzig in 2003, and the project development company AOC | Stadtentwicklung GmbH, for which Leipzig is the largest location, will be there as a partner of the region and will show various building projects from their portfolio.

Leipzig’s capabilities are also recognized by fDi Intelligence, a specialist magazine from the British Financial Times, which compares the most promising investment locations and their strategies across Europe. Leipzig took fourth place in the category “fDi’s Small European Regions of the Future 2023”. In addition to economic power, factors such as lifestyle and cost efficiency were also included in the evaluation. For companies planning a new branch, the fDi ranking is an important source of information when researching a location.

For Baumlink, an open learning and error culture is important; they want to grow together. The entire team from all locations meets online once a week to discuss various current topics, processes or methods for recruitment. There is an online knowledge platform and a dedicated academy that imparts practical knowledge and methodology.
