OPES opens new factory in Zwenkau

Innovative technology and sustainable production for the Leipzig economic region
Leipzig, 13 February 2024 - Invest Region Leipzig (IRL) is delighted that OPES Solar Mobility is relocating to Zwenkau. The company will build a factory for the production of photovoltaic modules (PV modules) for vehicles in the former "Solarion-Halle" on an area of 12,000 m² from the end of 2024. The modules are intended to increase the range of electric vehicles and supply the on-board electronics. OPES Solar Mobility is a joint venture between the solar module specialist "OPES Solutions" and a strategic investor from Germany.
Industry of the future for the Leipzig economic region
"The establishment of OPES Solar Mobility is a major gain for the Leipzig economic region," says Michael Körner, Managing Director of IRL. "The company is bringing innovative technology and highly qualified jobs to the region." The IRL has supported OPES Solar Mobility in its search for a suitable location and in establishing a network in the region. "We are delighted that we were able to support OPES Solar Mobility in setting up in Zwenkau," says Körner.
The PV modules from OPES Solar Mobility have been specially developed for the requirements of vehicles. They are light, robust and flexible and can withstand high temperatures, shocks, vibrations and high-pressure cleaners. The production processes are designed to be sustainable and are focussed on the use of recycled materials.
120 new jobs in Zwenkau
OPES Solar Mobility is planning to hire around 120 employees at the Zwenkau site over the next two years. The company is looking for engineers, logistics and software specialists, production managers and purchasers, among others.
