EXPO Real in Munich

The Invest Region Leipzig acquisition team was at the Expo Real in Munich from 4 to 6 October. Together with over 35 companies and institutions, the settlement agency and its partners (the City of Leipzig, the Leipzig Chamber of Industry and Commerce, the districts of Leipzig and North Saxony) presented themselves at the joint stand of the Central German Metropolitan Region. “Expo Real is an important event for IRL’s partners to build and expand the investor network. The exchange at the stand shows that the Region of Leipzig is of steadily growing interest,” said Michael Körner, Managing Director of Invest Region Leipzig. In total, more than 1,700 exhibitors exhibited at the international trade fair for real estate and investments and attracted around 39,000 participants and visitors from over 70 countries to the fair grounds in Munich.

On tour with the St. Thomas Choir

The aim of the St. Thomas Choir's tour to Lyon was to use a city partnership to establish collaborations or acquisitions. In addition to Invest Region Leipzig, other business people also took advantage of the offer to travel along. The companies and their locations were presented in the course of a business breakfast.

Specialist service receives new logo

To support the long-term expansion of specialist activities, a new logo was developed for work-in-Leipzig.de. This will be found on all advertising and marketing materials in the future. For the campus tour in November, for example, over 6,000 bicycle saddle protectors were produced. These will then be distributed at the planned universities in Brandenburg and Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. Printed fabric bags are now available for further promotional campaigns. In addition, the team produced an event brochure for pupils, students and commuters with current dates from the Region of Leipzig.

Successful 1st half year

The team was active in addressing potential investors at almost 20 trade fairs in Germany and abroad by the end of June. Numerous discussions were held and site visits organised in the Region of Leipzig. The work is paying off – 14 settlements have already been acquired for the first half of the year. There are also plenty of activities planned for the second half of the year. Florian Schmidtner has also strengthened the Invest Region Leipzig team as Acquisition/Settlement Manager since July.

News in the energy industry

Invest Region Leipzig was also represented at PowerGen, a trade fair for the energy industry. It is regarded as the largest technology fair for power plants and energy supply outside the USA and took place in Milan for the third time. The event attracted around 13,500 visitors to the stands of the 535 exhibitors, most of whom came from Germany, Italy, the USA and Great Britain. Siemens, Ansaldo, Andritz and Kawasaki Gas Turbine represented several big players in the industry. The Region of Leipzig is not only distinguished by the settlement of Siemens: With the wholesale trade of Verbundnetz Gas AG as part of a pan-European strategy or on European trading platforms (EEX), a modern Vattenfall power plant and the Helmholtz Centre for Environmental Research, the Region of Leipzig has an attractive offer of locations.

Industry 4.0 up close and personal

Barack Obama and Angela Merkel were present for the opening of this year's HANNOVER MESSE. The world's most important industrial trade fair, which was organised in cooperation with partner country USA, had "Integrated Industry - Discover Solutions" as its main theme. Industry 4.0 was formally demonstrated with a multitude of application examples for the digitalisation of production. The second central theme of the trade fair was the energy system of the future, Integrated Energy. More than 5,200 exhibitors and more than 190,000 visitors, of which more than 50,000 came from abroad, attended the event to experience the digital future up close and to invest in modern technologies.

Invest Region Leipzig at Medtec

The most important trade fair for European manufacturers in the medical sector did not take place without Invest Region Leipzig. Around 7,000 visitors took the opportunity to obtain comprehensive information on the current range of products and services in the development and manufacture of medical devices. The fair offers a unique opportunity to benefit from the expertise of the world's leading suppliers. The Leipzig region has recently made a name for itself in the medical sector. With BIO CITY Leipzig Technology and Business Incubator and the Bio-Cube, which was built in 2013, the course was set for the establishment and expansion of further companies with a clear focus on biotechnology and biomedicine.

Health Economy Round Table

The "Stammtisch Gesundheitswirtschaft und Pflege LK Nordsachsen" (Health Economy and Nursing Round Table) was a networking offer of the district for companies in the health and nursing industry. Among the participants were managing directors, nursing managers and personnel managers. The focus was on clinics, wellness clinics, senior citizens' facilities and mobile care facilities from Northern Saxony. The specialist service of Invest Region Leipzig used this meeting to present the International Jobdays Health Prague 2016 and to provide information at a joint stand.

Invest Region Leipzig at the IT Congress in Darmstadt

More than 150 exhibitors presented the latest trends and innovations in the industry in Darmstadt under the motto "Business 4.0 - Digitalisation for SMEs". The event was important for the Region of Leipzig in that Comparex AG, an internationally operating IT service provider, is based in Leipzig. Furthermore, the City of Leipzig is regarded as a competence centre for the energy industry and is supported in IT advancement by the well-known Perdata brand.

Invest Region Leipzig starts 2016 in Berlin and Dresden

Invest Region Leipzig was present at International Green Week in Berlin. More than 1,500 exhibitors with more than 100,000 products from Germany and the world took part in this international exhibition for food, agriculture and horticulture, which looks back on a 90-year tradition. The 400,000 visitors to the event also found the joint stand of Invest Region Leipzig and Leipzig Tourism und Marketing GmbH (LTM). After all, more than 350 companies are active in the food and agriculture sectors in the Region of Leipzig.

At the beginning of the year, Invest Region Leipzig had its own stand at the Dresden Trade Fair in order to inform future trainees, Bachelor’s students and other interested specialists about the job prospects in the Region of Leipzig and to present the work-in-Leipzig.de job portal. According to the organiser, 459 exhibitors experienced a new record when 30,500 visitors flocked to Dresden.
